Hi — I’m Johnny Milkweed, the person behind the milkweed seeds at TakeMySats.

What started as a simple interest in monarch butterflies and native plants slowly turned into a deeper mission: helping people plant the right milkweed in the right place. Not just any seed. Not decorative gardening trends. Real habitat.

Milkweed is not one plant. It is a diverse group of native species that evolved alongside monarch butterflies and countless pollinators across North America. When we plant locally adapted milkweed, we support migration routes, strengthen regional ecosystems, and rebuild small pieces of habitat that have quietly disappeared over time.

That idea became the foundation of this project.

Why I Sell Milkweed Seeds

I focus on native milkweed species that are appropriate for specific regions and climates. My goal is to make it easier for gardeners, educators, conservationists, and curious beginners to access seeds that actually matter ecologically.

Many people want to help monarchs but don’t know where to start. Others unknowingly plant species that are not suited to their area. By offering seed packets with clear information and educational resources — including state milkweed maps and planting guidance — I try to remove that confusion. This isn’t about selling as many seeds as possible. It’s about helping more people plant meaningful habitat.

Large-scale restoration is important. But so is a small patch of native flowers in a backyard, schoolyard, or roadside edge.
